IRTRAD-L is a an unmoderated LISTSERV distribution list for the discussion of all issues relating to Irish traditional music. To contribute to the list send your contribution to the list's full address IRTRAD-L@IRLEARN.UCD.IE 1.2 What is the difference between IRTRAD-L and IRTRAD-D? IRTRAD-L and IRTRAD-D are two separate lists. IRTRAD-D is a moderated LISTSERV distribution list set up solely to distribute the IRTRAD newsletter. This is a monthly digest - distributed early every month - mainly of messages compiled during the previous month from the unmoderated IRTRAD-L list, and is posted to all IRTRAD-D subscribers. It thus provides a monthly summary of IRTRAD-L activity and is intended primarily for those who are interested in Irish traditional music but who don't wish to receive the volume of mail that IRTRAD-L generates. 1.3 What is LISTSERV? LISTSERV is a computer program written by Eric Thomas that administers mailing lists. It also provides facilities for logging and archiving of mail traffic, file server functions, and database searches of archives and files. There are thousands of LISTSERV mailing lists. IRTRAD-L and IRTRAD-D are just two. Whereas contributions for IRTRAD-L are sent to the list address it is to the *LISTSERV* address (i.e. LISTSERV@IRLEARN.UCD.IE) that all routine administrative requests relating to IRTRAD-L should be sent. 2.0 Managing your IRTRAD-L subscription 2.1 How to send commands to LISTSERV@IRLEARN.UCD.IE Send a mail message to LISTSERV@IRLEARN.UCD.IE Leave the Subject: field blank Enter the necessary LISTSERV command in the message. Multiple commands can be sent to LISTSERV in the same mail message as long as each command appears on a separate line. 2.2 What command do I send to LISTSERV@IRLEARN.UCD.IE to.... 2.21 subscribe to IRTRAD-L/D? SUB IRTRAD-L/D your full name where "your full name" is your real name (not your e-mail address) 2.22 unsubscribe from IRTRAD-L/D? SIGNOFF IRTRAD-L/D 2.23 stop receiving IRTRAD-L mail temporarily (e.g. when I leave on vacation), and then begin receiving it again? SET IRTRAD-L NOMAIL/MAIL 2.24 ensure that the sender's address is in every IRTRAD-L message that I receive? SET IRTRAD-L DUALHDR 2.25 receive messages in batches rather than individually? SET IRTRAD-L DIGEST Not to be confused with IRTRAD-D which is a separate list. When you set IRTRAD-L to DIGEST you still receive *all* IRTRAD-L messages. It's just that you get them in batches rather than individually. 2.26 receive only an index of IRTRAD-L messages? SET IRTRAD-L INDEX An index is just the Subject: field and length of the messages, no content. You can later retrieve the messages using the database functions. 2.27 receive/stop receiving a copy back of each message I send to IRTRAD-L? SET IRTRAD-L REPRO/NOREPRO 2.28 control the amount of acknowledgement I receive when I send a message to IRTRAD-L? SET IRTRAD-L ACK/NOACK/MSGACK where ACK = mail acknowledgement NOACK = no acknowledgement MSGACK = interactive messages only 2.29 check my subscription options?
